CRA Don’t Do Robocalls

CRA do not use robocalls or autodialers. In our offices we have recently seen instances of taxpayers receiving calls with a synthesized voice (“robocalls”) purporting to be from CRA and demanding a return call immediately.

These calls are from scam artists. We also hear (and get, and hear of) similar robocalls directing people to check information on a fake CRA website. These are also from scam artists.

CRA don’t do robocalls and they don’t ever call you to direct you to websites. If you ever receive an inquiry from someone saying they are CRA, and you have any doubts, you can call our office at 905 296 3378 and we are sometimes able to provide assistance.

As always, never pay CRA by e-transfer, by gift card, by iTunes or other commercial card, or by Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. CRA do not accept these forms of payment, but scam artists do.
